i. It is the sum of all processes that take place in each living cell to meet day to day needs.

ii. The two kinds of metabolism are catabolism and anabolism which includes two processes, i.e catabolic process and anabolic process respectively.

iii. Among these processes, synthetic processes are called anabolic reactions. e.g. production of enzymes.

iv. Catabolic reactions are those in which complex stored products are hydrolyzed to form smaller and simpler molecules. e.g. glycolysis.

v. Anabolic processes consume the energy, while catabolic processes release energy.
