Concept of non-alignment was laid down shortly after the end of World War II in 1948.

United States of America and Soviet Union of Russia have always been formidable and hostile with each other, being the two major powers in the world and after the World War II, a cold war between them started to divide the world into two camps.

Asia and Africa had recently become independent and they did not want to become a part of it.

There were many nations who wanted to stay away from this cold war and together they began the non- alignment movement in which they enforced that they are not involved with, or against any major power.

They stood neutral.
