» It is the reciprocal of focal length.

i.e

P = \dfrac{1}{f}

Here..

• P = Power of lens

• f = focal length

In meter

P = \frac{1}{f}

And in cm

P = \frac{100}{f}

› Power of convex lens is positive and power of concave lens is negative.

» S.I. Unit of power is Dioptre (D).

» 1 Dioptre is the power of lens whose focal length is 1 m.

Power of lens is the ability of the lens to converge the rays of light falling on it. It can also be defined as P=1/f where f is the focal length. Power of a lens is the reciprocal of its focal length. Dioptre is the S I unit of power of lens.
