The phenomenon described in the given diagram happens due to the following circumstances -

• The mentioned phenomenon is known as the mirage which happens in the desert region.

• This happens because the air which is the traveling medium off the light rays is very hot in the desert region which causes high amount refraction of the light rays and the light rays start traveling in an almost curved path.

• But,our eyes cannot see this curved light rays emitting from the main object. That's why our eyes see an inverted virtual image of the real object which looks like reflection of the main object on the water.
