composition:

the supreme Court consists of a chief justice who heads the proceedings of the court. there are twenty-five other judges who work with him. the chief justice is appointed by the president of India. other judges of the supreme Court are also appointed by the president in consultation with the chief justice of India.

power:

it hears both civil and criminal cases as well as those relating to the interpretation of the Constitution. nobody or other Court hears appeals against the supreme Court decision.

jurisdiction:

there are three types of jurisdiction:

1.original jurisdiction

the original jurisdiction of supreme Court is its power to hear certain cases for the first time.

2.appellate jurisdiction

the supreme Court is the highest court of appeal in civil and criminal cases. it hears appeal against the judgement rendered by the high courts.

3.advisory jurisdiction

under advisory jurisdiction, the president of India may refer any question of law of public importance of supreme Court for its advice, but the supreme Court is not bound to give advice.
