1) Now it became constitutionally mandatory to hold regular elections to local bodies.
2) After the implementation of this amendment it became necessary to reserve seats in the elected bodies and the executive heads of these institutions for the Scheduled Casts,Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes.
3) At least one-third of the total seats were reserved for women.
