This PDF is construction of Barometer
The working of Barometer is written below:
Photo: A Torricellian barometer (sometimes called a mercury barometer) is an inverted (upside-down) glass tube standing in a bath of mercury. Air pressure pushes down on the surface of the mercury, making some rise up the tube. The greater the air pressure, the higher the mercury rises.

Construction and working of a barometer
Explanation:
The barometer is a device used to measure atmospheric pressure. It consists of a tall glass tube inverted in a bath of mercury. Please refer to the attached picture for construction.
The liquid will rise up partially in the tube, similar to a thermometer. We use mercury in barometers as it is denser than water. If we use water, we might need a very tall tube, rendering the barometer enormous and impractical.
