Hey dear!!

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

THE WORKING OF AN ELECTRIC BELL

Step 1
When the switch is pressed, the circuit is complete and a current flows into the electromagnet.

Step 2
The soft iron bar is attracted towards the electromagnet and the hammer hits the gong. This movement breaks the circuit so that the current stops flowing and switches off the electromagnet.

Step 3
The springy metal strip pulls the soft iron bar back so that contact is made again and the circuit is complete. As this keeps repeating, the hammer repeatedly strikes the gong causing a ringing sound as long as the switch is pressed.

PRINCIPLE

It works on the principle of magnetic effect of current .

CONSTRUCTION

• Metal spring and armature

• Gong

• Hammer

• Electromagnet

• Contact screw

WORKING

• When the switch is pressed , the

current flows through the coil of

the electromagnet and the

electromagnet is magnetized

to attract the metal spring .

• The hammer attached to it strikes

the gong and produces a ringing

sound .

• When the metal spring moves

towards the electromagnet , it's

contact with the screw is broken at

point P .

• Electric circuit breaks and the

current flow stop .

• As the magnetism is lost , the

metal spring goes back to its

original position and the hammer

also moves away .

• This ' make and break ' of the

circuit makes the bell ring .
