Explain the debate over victim provocation and murder in cases of intimate partner violence.

Explanation:

Provocation is a qualified or limited defense in two different respects. First, it is only a defense to one offense – murder. Provocation in respect to other offenses is no defense but it is a mitigating factor in sentencing (Stuart, 2011; Baker and Williams, 2012). Second, it does not result in a complete acquittal.
