Burma was known as Myanmar before it gained freedom from colonial rule in 1948 and become a democracy but unfortunately the democracy came to an end in 1962 by military coup. After so much struggle in 1990 almost after 30yrs of dictatorship the elections were held and the elections were won by national league but the dictatorship refused to accept the results and kept the members and leaders of national league into house arrest .. This was democracy movement in Myanmar.. Hope this helps! :)
