The Scottish Enlightenment was characterized by its deluge of intellectual and scientific achievements in Scotland of the 18th & early 19th centuries.

Explanation:

  • Around the same time, the thinkers of Scottish Enlightenment reflected the Humanist and Rationalist viewpoint of the European Enlightenment by denying any authority which could not be fairly justified.
  • In Scotland the Enlightenment was marked by a thorough empiricism and practicality in the area where the principal values for individuals and society as a whole were improvement, strength and practical advantage.
  • Whereas this whole literature represents virtually the entire range of modern knowledge, from "experimental natural science" &  by way of philosophy to what later  "Condorcet" ( a French philosopher, mathematician, & early political scientist). called  "the social science". It is worth noting here that this literature has maintained its significance and value in particular from the latter branch.
  • Condorcet's political positions, including female suffrage, opposition to slavery, equal rights irrespective of religion or free education, were distinctive even when in the framework of many radical ideas suggested in  the period of the Enlightenment. He was one of the first to systematically apply the mathematics in the fields of social sciences
  • Probably the most influential language of the idea of progress ever written by Condorcet's  was the "Sketch for the historic picture of the progress of the human spirit". It describes civilization history as one of scientific progress and shows the close connection between scientific progress and human rights and justice development.
