Shadows are formed when opaque objects obstruct the path of light. Image is seen when light comes from the object after reflection or refraction enters the observer's eye. No light enters the eye from the shadow of the object. Image gives more information such as colour, structure, etc.

Answer:

An image is an artifact that depicts visual perception, such as a photograph or other two-dimensional picture, that resembles a subject—usually a physical object—and thus provides a depiction of it

A shadow is a dark (real image) area where light from a light source is blocked by an opaque object. It occupies all of the three-dimensional volume behind an object with light in front of it. The cross section of a shadow is a two-dimensional silhouette, or a reverse projection of the object blocking the light.
