explain the difference between save and save as?

Save means to save the file for later use 

But in save as you can different types of files like if you made a image file you can get  different extensions like .PNG , .JPG , .JPEG, .GIF

When uou save the docement for the veey first time, save as dialog box gets displayed. Next time onwards, option save does not display dialog box, however, save as will always display a dialog box that may be used to save a document under a different name/type.
