SELF-POLLINATION

1) The process of transferring the pollen grains from the anther to the stigma of the same flower or the stigma of a flower on the same plant is called self-pollination.

2) It occurs in genetically same plants.

3) No external pollinating agents are required.

4) Eg- Orchids.

CROSS-POLLINATION

1) The process by which the pollen grains are transferred from the anther of a flower to the stigma of another flower of the same species is called cross-pollination.

2) It occurs in genetically different plants of the same species.

3) External pollinating agents are required for this type of pollination (water, wind, insects etc).

4) Eg- Papaya.
