While an electromagnetic wave is called just a disturbance, a mechanical wave is considered a periodic disturbance. Mechanical waves are also called elastic waves as their propagation depends on the elastic properties of the medium through which the waves pass.

When wave length of a wave is very low and the magnitude is very high then we call it as a electromagnetic wave.(example radio wave)
when the wave length is very high and the magnitude is very low then we call it mechanical waves. (example sound wave)
* electromagnetic wave make by electric filed using transistor , this is the another reason to call it as electromagnetic wave.
