The major difference are , In shell type transformer coils are installed on the middle limb, while the other limbs are not having any coil though there is two flux path and core is surrounding the winding. ... Differences between the core type and shell type transformer Are:-
- In core type core is surrounded by the winding while in shell type winding is surrounded by the core.
- In core type concentric cylindrical winding is used while in shell type Sandwiched winding is used.
- Core type construction is used for larger low voltage transformer while shell type is used for small high voltage transformer.
- Natural cooling is not available for core type while for shell type natural cooling is available.
