Explain the different cropping patterns with examples. If you have a land ready for cultivation,
and your requirement is achieving two harvested crops in one season, which cropping practice will
you use and why?
Answers
The different cropping patterns are ..
1)Monocropping - The key disadvantage is that it will reduce the soil fertility, so the farmer have to use chemical fertilizers to increase the soil fertility. this is not a good pattern.
2)crop rotation - It is a key pattern where different crops are grown every year so that the soil fertility will not lost and it also reduce disease and pests.
3)Multiple cropping - it means growing two or more crops in the same piece of land. Example is potato and mustard etc.
4) Intercropping - it means growing two crops in same land at the same time. Example is intercropping of growing maize and beans in another rows and columns.
Multiple cropping is the best pattern where you can grow two crops in one season .because this pattern will not use the soil fertility more it will only use the useful one which required for the crop which maintain the soil fertility.
