Answer:
There are 2 different forms i.e. structures of power sharing in the modern democracy.
- Federal Structure
In this structure, the power is distributed among three government bodies. These are :
- Executive - The government body responsible for enforcing laws and maintaining order in the State. Some examples of Executive are Police and Civil Servants.
- Legislature - The government body responsible for creating laws and formulating schemes for progression of the State. Some examples of Legislature are Parliamentarians and Members of State Assemblies
- Judiciary - The government body responsible for keeping the laws in check and maintaining strict supervision on the other two bodies of the government. Some examples of Judiciary are Judges and Lawyers.
- Hierarchical Structure
In this structure, the power is divided among tiers of the government in a hierarchical manner i.e. high to low. The rungs of power in this structure are as follows:
- Union - Also known as the Central Government. It is the rung which possesses the most power when it comes to administering the entire State. It manages the country's finance, defence, natural resources etc.
- State - The State government is in charge of managing a state's resources and handling people welfare. It controls a state's assets, resource allocation etc.
- Local - The latest rung of power which handles disputes, focuses on development of areas for whom uniform development plans are not suitable and management of the said area. For example, Gram Panchayat and Municipal Corporations.
