The word mining sounds a lot like mineral & that's no accident because mining is how minerals are removed from the ground. there are several different ways minerals can be extracted from the earth. but the two main methods are called :
1. surface mining &
2. subsurface mining.
surface mining: is just it sounds like removing minerals that are near the earth surface this is where the ore deposits are located..
subsurface mining: in subsurface mining a long tunnel is created horizontally or vertically the tunnel walls are reinforced with wood & ventilation shafts are created to provide air to the miners underground....

✴The different methods used for mineral extraction are:-

Mining - Mining is the process of extraction of minerals from shallow and deep areas. There are two methods of mining by which extraction of minerals can be done:- Open cast mining and Shaft mining.

▶Open cast mining - It is a mining technique in which material is extracted by digging a large hole rather than tunneling or bouring. When mineral ore are located at the shallow depth, they are taken out by removing the surface layer. This type of mining is also known as Open pit mining.

▶Shaft mining - It is a mining technique used for mining the mineral deposits found deep under the Earth's surface. In this technique a mine shaft is generally used for deep bores.

Drilling - It is a type of shaft mining generally used for oil and natural gas extraction.

Quarrying - It is generally used to extract minerals which lies near the surface by simply digging.
