In th every begining , the earths crust was made up of thick layers of rocks.These rocks were heated up by the sun and cooled by the rain. Alternate heating and cooling cracked the rocks. winters this water froze into ice. Ice in the crevices of rocks expanded and caused the rocks to break into smaller pieces. Due to strong winds and other natural causes , these rocks hit each other and broke into even smaller pieces.
