A small part of the activated sludge is pumped back into the aeration tank to serve as the inoculum (containing bacteria and fungi - Floc)  for the next cycle of sewage treatment.

The wastewater released by houses is called Sewage.

Explanation:

  • Secondary treatment of sewage is all about treating the sewage by microorganisms.
  • Microbes have been used in sewage treatment as they fasten the process and work towards lowering the sludge amount that is created from such wastewater.
  • Anaerobic bacteria have been used, as it helps in removing the amount of phosphorus as well from such dirty wastewater.
  • The microbes work on the organic content in the sludge and convert it to create carbon dioxide as well as oxygen-rich biomass.
