Answer

The organisms which depends on other organisms for their food are called as heterotrophic modes of nutrition. They are classified into four types. They are :-

\bigstar Parasitic plants :-

  • The parasitic plants are those who consume the whole food from the other plants or trees. The plant on which it grows is called as host.
  • They depend on other plants for their food because they do not have chlorophyll which is necessary to make food.

Examples :- Cuscuta, Greater Dodder.

\bigstar Insectivores plants :-

  • The insectivores plants are those who consume the whole nutrition from the insects. They trap the insects nearby to them.
  • They depend on other insects for food because they grow in the region in the soil is poor in nutrients.

Examples :- Venus flytrap, Pitcher plant.

\bigstar Saprophytic plants :-

  • The saprophytic plants are those who grow on dead and decaying matter. They obtain the whole nutrition on which it grows. It spoils the nutrition on which it grows.
  • They depend on other organisms for food because they grow in shade and do not get any sunlight to prepare food.

Example :- Mushrooms, Indian pipe

  • The symbiotic plants are those who grow on the host plants for their food. They do not consume the whole food, also they are beneficial to the host plant in many ways.
  • They depend on other plants for food because they do not have the ability to prepare their own food.

Example :- Marigold, Rosemary
