Valuation can simply be defined “as an attempt to put monetary values or to environmental goods and services or natural resources”. It is a key exercise in economic analysis and its results provide important information about values of environmental goods and services.

A resource is a thing which has a  value and some use. It may have a commercial value for various commercial purposes. For example: wood has a lot of commercial value as it is intensively used for making furniture.
It is said that resources are not only any materialistic thing or substance. Humans can also be a resource...they are called human resources. a highly educated human with a lot of qualifications can be called a resource because he/she has the capability to serve India and contribute to the country's progress. A teacher who teaches young children is a resource. The children, on the other hand, are being prepared to become a resource.
