atherosclerosis can be defined as a process in which there is progressive thickening of the walls of the large and the small vessels.

Explanation:

  • There is a  relation between the resistance offered to the blood the blood flow and the blood pressure with respect to atherosclerosis. In atherosclerosis due to thickening of the wall there is decrease in the lumen of the blood vessel.
  • As a result of this the blood pressure is increased since pressure is inversely proportional to the surface area of the lumen. As a result of this the blood flow significantly decreases.
