The total recoverable reserves of iron ore in India are about 9,602 million tonnes of hematite and 3,408 million tonnes of magnetite. Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Odisha, Goa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu are the principal Indian producers of iron ore.

India is exceptionally rich in Iron Ore deposits both in quality and quantity....Haematite and magnetite are the two major iron ores in India...They contain nearly 70 percent of iron...Jharkhand,Orissa and Chhattisgarh are the main states both in terms of reserves as well as production of iron ore in India...Half of the deposits are located in Singhbum districts of Jharkhand and namely Sudengarh and Mayurbhanj....
