✔Plains of northern India are flat and enormous. It is extended in the east west direction between the Himalayas in the north and Peninsular Plateau in the south. These plains form an unbroken belt of alluvium varying in thickness from east Bihar Plain to Punjab and northern Rajasthan.

The relief features of the northern Plains:

✒The fertile great plains of northern India is formed by the deposition of sediments brought by the rivers descending from the Himalayas.

✒The main relief features of the northern plains are bhabar, terai, bhangar, and khadar.

✒Bhabar is a narrow belt, about 6-8 km in width.

✒Terai lies to the south of the bhabar belt.

The features of Northern Plains:

✔The Northern Plain is also called the Indo-Gangetic plain. The soil cover in this plain is rich and fertile, and water is found in plenty, combined with a favourable climate for growing several major crops, the Northern Plain is one of the world's most intensively farmed areas and hence very densely populated.
