Explain the division of northern plains

Bhabhar, Tarai, Bangar and Khadar.

Bhadar: These are the older alluvium or old soil and form the largest part of the Northern Plains.

Khadar: The newer and younger deposits of the flood plains. Renewed every Year

Tarai: This is the thickest forest region with wild life

Bangar: They lie above the flood plain of the rivers and present a terrace like feature

The Great Northern Plain is Divided into three Parts:-

  • Punjab Plain.

  • Ganga Plain.

  • Brahamputra plain.

Main Features of Punjab Plain

  • The Northern part of the Northern Plain is Punjab Plain.

  • The plain is formed by Indus and it's tributaries- Chenab, Ravi,Vyas etc.

  • The larger part of this plain lies in Pakistan.

  • This Plain is dominated by Doabs.

  • This plain is formed by deposition of Alluvial Soil.

Main Feature of Ganga Plain.

  • Ganga Plain is located in the center of the Norther plain.

  • This Plain is extended between Ghagger and teesta river.

  • This plain is also formed by Desposition of Alluvial Soil.

  • This plain lies in Jharkhand,West bengal.

Main Feature of Brahamputra plain.

  • This plain is also formed by Desposition of Alluvial Soil.

  • It lies in Easter part of Northern plain

  • Brahamputra plain lies in assam
