explain the drawbacks of Mendeleev periodic table and newlands Octave periodic table
Answers
Explanation:
John Newlands law of octaves arranged all the elements known at the time into a table in order of relative atomic mass. When he did this, he found that each element was similar to the element eight places further on.This repeating or periodic pattern of properties had problems.
Draw backs /demerits of mendeleevs periodic table
1):Some elements like hydrogen show similar properties with alkali metals as well as with halogens ....so it was difficult to place them in periodic table
2): Isotopes were discovered long after Mendeleev put forth his periodic table..
elements having isotopes show same chemical properties not have different atomic mass so according to their properties there were to be placed in Sams group bit according to their atomic masses there were in different group
3)Elements having higher atomic mass (Co & Ni ) were placed after the elements having lower atomic mass
NEWLANDS Law of octaves
NEWLANDS law was based on the musical notes ...The elements in newlands octave contain 7×8 elements equal to 56 boxes
Every first element is related with every eighth element.
