One of the most severe earthquakes to hit the Kingdom of Nepal, took place on April 25, 2015.

This earthquake measured 7.8 on the Richter scale and had its epicentre at Barpak in the Gorkha District. The severity of the earthquake caused an avalanche on Mount Everest, which buried alive 21 people. Elsewhere it killed close to 9,000 people and injured about 22,000. The estimated damage as a result of this earthquake was put at US Dollar 10 billion, by the Nepalese government.
