Socially, German people were infuriated and felt betrayed by the German government as they accepted a very poor treaty. This was because the negotiators were ordered to accept any form of peace treaty offered without negotiation.
Politically this caused huge instability because the German people were likely to pay for this treaty for the rest of their lives. The treaty of Versailles ultimately led to many people voting for Adolf Hitler later on due to the amount of distrust in the old ways of governing. And finally; Economically. God where do I begin?
Economically Germany was completely stuffed. The treaty had taken all land they had seized and much that they originally had. Proud German people had found themselves within another countries border (A common occurrence in Europe) . Germany was also forced to pay for all of the damage caused by the war. This lead to a massive debt that was only payed off in 2010, an entire 92 years since the treaty.
In many ways, it’s astonishing that Germany has remained Germany after the two world wars that (self inflicted or not) have seriously damaged Germany socially, politically and economically.
