explain the electronic structure of hydroxyl group in alcohols.

In alcohol O atom is sp3 hybridised.And bond angle between R and O is less than 109.28 degree because oxygen has two lone pairs in which repulsion is more hence it decreases the bond angle.

Repulsion varies in the order : Lone pair -lone pair > Bond pair -Line pair > bond pair bond pair.

Anonymous: Okk listen oxygen can make two bonds normally and it has two lone pairs left so these lone pairs feel greter replulsion among themselves which reduces the bond angle
