When it's time to create and transform your graphics, the Element menu is the place to go. The most important items listed here as far as native PageMaker graphics are concerned (rectangles, oval, polygons, and freeform polygon shapes) are the first three listing: Fill, Strike, and Fill and Stroke. The first two, Fill and Stroke, enable you to apply basic fills and strokes to selected PageMaker elements. The third item, Fill and Strike, enables you to create and apply more complex fills and strokes to a selection, including the adjustment of transparent screens of color, overprints, and reversals. PageMaker graphics are usually used in conjunction with text blocks to set them apart from standard body copy, or transformed into frames for text or graphics.
Frame, which is new in PageMaker 6.5, is important because whatever is attached to a frame is automatically glued inside it, making the maneuvering and placement of framed elements that much easier to move as a group. Because any closed shape can be used as framed area, frames can be a major design element of a piece.
Text wrapping is accessed from this menu. Mask and Unmask, two other selections listen in the Element, menu are explored in Unit 8, where the Image option is also thoroughly explored. For a view of the dialog interfaces listed under the Element menu,
