 \huge {\bf{\green{Endemic \:Species}}}

Endemic species are those species of plants and animals which are found exclusively in particular area. They are not naturally found anywhere else. A particular type of animal or plant may be endemic in a zone, a state or a country. For example, sal and wild mango are two examples of the endemic flora of the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve in India. Bison, Indian giant squirrel and flying squirrel are endemic fauna of this area.

Distraction of their habitat, increasing population and introduction of new speciesmay affect the natural habitat of endemic species and endanger their existence.

Some species endemic to India are :-

  • Lion tailed macaque (Western Ghats)

  • Malabar parakeet (Malabar region)

  • Nilgiri Langur (Nilgiri hills)

  • Nilgiri Tahr (Nilgiri hills)

  • Great Indian Bustard
