Enthalpy change is defined by the following equation: ΔH is the "enthalpy change", ... If ΔH is positive, the reaction is endothermic, that is heat is absorbed by the system due to the products of the reaction having a greater enthalpy than the reactants.

Enthalpyy of reaction is the change in enthalpy that accompanies a chemical reaction represented by a balanced equation.
The factors responsible for the enthalpy of reaction are :-
- Physical state of reactants and products.
- Allotropic modifications of reactants.
- Standard temperature and pressure.
- Constant temperature and pressure.
- Quantity of reactants.
Different types of enthalpy of reactions are :
- Enthalpy of combustion of carbon (∆cH).
- Enthalpy of carbon dioxide formation reaction (∆fH)
