The lime water would turn milky when carbon dioxide is passed through it.
Carbon dioxide on reacting with lime water calcium hydroxide or slaked lime forms calcium carbonate which is insoluble in water due to this reason limewater turns milky.
Ca(OH)2 + CO2 -------> CaCO3 + H2O
Calcium hydroxide online water + carbon dioxide goes to form calcium carbonate milky precipitate + water.
When excess of seo2 is past then milkiness disappears:
CaCO3 + H2O + CO2 -------> Ca(HCO3)2 means colourless.
Hope it helps!
