From Day 1 to Day 5
- The Day 1 of the cycle is the first day of menstrual bleeding.
- The period last from 3 to 8 days.
- In the first 2 days of menstrual cycle, bleeding is heaviest.
- The hormones known as Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and lutenising hormone (LH) are produced by pituitary gland during menstrual cycle.
From Day 6 to Day 14 (Ovarian event from 13-15 days)
- The uterine lining which is also known as the endometrium started forming for the chances of a pregnancy, Once the bleeding is stopped.
- The uterine lining is enriched in nutrients and blood and becomes thicker.
- The LH and FSH attains the peak level during these days.
- The rupture of graffian follicle takes place due to rapid secretion of LH and thus ovulation takes place.
From Day 14 to Day 25 (Ovarian hormones level from 16 to 23 days)
- On day 14, from one of the ovaries, an egg is released which started its journey from the fallopian tubes to the uterus.
- Fertilization can occur, in the fallopian tube, if sperms are present.
- The fertilized egg will enter in the uterus and implant in the uterine wall.
- With the help of corpus luteum, progesterone is secreted.
- Endometrium is maintained by Progesterone.
From Day 25 to Day 28
- When the egg is not fertilized or implanted, the uterus lining is shed, break down of egg takes place which is shed along the lining.
- On Day 1 of menstrual cycle, again the cycle begins.
