1 Mendel select pure parent plant: Mendel select 34 varieties for his experiment. The number was reduced to 22 and finally selected 7 pure varieties for his experiment. on self pollination ,a pure variety gives rise offspring having similar trait ,e.g; tall variety with tall offspring , a violet flower variety with violet flowered offspring.Mendel desired himself as to true breeding nature of the variety through self pollination. True breeding plants were then used for the next step.They formed the parent generation.
