If a magnetic compass is placed on table, it is found that its needel rests in the direction of North-South.
However when it is placed near a magnet, the needle swings for some time and rests in direction other than North South.
THE REGION IN WHICH THE MAGNETIC COMPASS GETS INFLUENCED IS CALLED THE MAGNETIC FIELD OF THE MAGNET.
IT IS A VECTOR QUANTITY.
