Metals which are lying \bold{low} in the activity series such as \bold{copper\:and\:mercury} can not be reduced by some other metal from their metal oxides.

Since they have very \bold{low\:reduction} potential.

Therefore,

To \bold{reduce\:these\:metals,} their oxides are heated to undergo reduction to \bold{produce\:metals.}

hello mate here is your answer

extracting metals low in activity series metal that are low in activity series are unreactive the oxides of these metals can be reduced to metal by heating alone for example Mercury is obtained from its ore , cinnabar by process of heating
