The climate of any particular place is influenced by a host of interacting factors. These include latitude, elevation, nearby water, ocean currents, topography, vegetation, and prevailing winds. The global climate system and any changes that occur within it also influence local climate.
Factors affecting climate
- distance from the sea.
- ocean currents.
- direction of prevailing winds.
- shape of the land (known as 'relief' or 'topography')
- distance from the equator.
- the El Niño phenomenon.

1.LATITUDE
- India is divided by The Tropic of Cancer in to the Tropical North and Subtropical South. Due to the curvature of the Earth , the amount if solar energy received is different according to the latitudes.
2.ALTITUDE
- As we go higher, temperature generally decreases (From equator to poles) as the atmosphere becomes less dense.
3. PRESSURE AND WIND SYSTEM
- They depend on the latitude and altitude of a place thus influencing rainfall patterns.
4. DISTANCE FROM THE SEA
- Oceans heat up and cool down much more slowly than land. This means that coastal locations tend to be cooler in summer and warmer in winter than places inland at the same latitude and altitude.
5. INFLUENCE OF THE HIMALAYAS
- The Himalayas prevent frigid, dry winds from blowing south into the subcontinent, which keeps South Asia much warmer than corresponding temperate regions in the other continents
