India aims at the establishment of democratic socialism. It requires economic progress. Without economic equality, political equality is not possible. Some important factors are there which are responsible for the success of the process of democracy.
According to American political scientist Larry Diamond, democracy consists of four key elements: a political system for choosing and replacing the government through free and fair elections; the active participation of the people, as citizens, in politics and civic life; protection of the human rights of all citizens.

A parliamentary democracy is defined as the system of government which have representatives elected by the people to make laws. Indian is one of the greatest example of parliamentary democracy of all time along with Canada , Italy etc.
The factors that has contributed to the successful parliamentary democracy in India are as follows:
- It allows better coordination between executive and legislature.
- This form of government represents diversity which is the foundation of countries like India, where people of various ethnicity, religious groups etc. live together.
- Flexibility as no confidence motion can be passed and government can be replaced, in history many times no confidence motion is passed in India.
- It prevents authoritarianism.
- In this type of government, opposition points out the inefficiency of ruling party and helps them in being accountable. In country like India, this feature is very important for smooth running.
