Among the many features of European life in the eighteenth century were the agricultural revolution which gave rise to land enclosure; birth of the cottage industry, and the rise of the nuclear family .
- French society in the eighteen century was divided into three estates, only the members of third estate paid taxes.
- The term Old Regime is usually used to describe the society and institutions of France before 1789. Peasants came under the third estate.
- Great Northern War between the Russian and Swedish Empires.
- Nobility and traditional landed aristocracy still held the political power in most of Western Europe.
Besides all , Nationalism came into role during mid-eighteenth century and is the greatest development indeed. French revolution introduced, the scheme of equality, liberty and fraternity. This affected almost every parts of Europe.
