Majoritarianism refers to a situation in which the majority communities are able to dominate the minorities disregarding their needs and desires.
Majoritarianism was applied in Sri Lanka as:
1. Sinhala language was declared as the only official language of Sri Lanka thus disregarding Tamils.
2. Govt. followed preferential policies which benifitted the Sinhala applicants for govt. jobs and policies.
3. The constitution stated that the state shall protect and foaster buddism.
