Public Distribution System (PDS) is an Indian food security system. It is established by the Government of India under Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution and managed jointly with state governments in India. It distributes subsidised food and non-food items to India's poor through a network of Public distribution shops (PDS) established in several states across the country.
The main reasons for it's criticism are:
It is not reaching out to true beneficiary.
There is massive corruption in the system.
The benefits are reaped by those who have money and muscle power.
The soultion lies in the proper implementation of this system with proper monitoring and vigilence. Those who are found corrupt should be punished strictly.
