the first law of motion states that "when a body is rest,it remains in rest and when a body is in motion,it tends to remain in motion unless an external force is applied on it" which means a body remains in rest unless motion is applied on it and body will be in motion and continues to move in the straight line of the direction the force is applied.

Dear student,

First Law of Motion

According to the first law motion, put forward by Newton, a body at rest remains at rest and a body in motion continues to be in motion under net external force is applied on the body.

Examples

1. Let us assume a car standing on a road. Its engines are turned on which implies that it is ready to motion. But, the working of the engine is an internal force but can't have any appreciable effect on the change in state of the body. But, when the car starts moving, its wheels start pulling the surface backward, as a result, plays role an external force and the body starts moving.

2. Assume a body standing in a bus at rest. Let the driver of the bus suddenly make the bus under motion such that all the travelers in bus experience a backward force. Now, this happens because initially the bodies in the bus are at rest i.e. they posses inertia. As soon as the bus starts its motion, the lower portion of the body starting moving with bus but the upper region resists any motion as it possess inertia. Hence, as a result the body experience a backward force and vice-versa. etc.
