1. They  are made up of deposits of alluvium soil.

2. they cover an area of 7 lakh sq. km.

3.They lie between  the Himalayan rivers in the north and peninsular plateau in the south.

4.They are densely populated physiographic division of India.

5.  highly produvtive agricultural land.

6. .on the basis of difference of relief, they are divided into 4 parts- bhabar,terai,bhangar and khadar
