Explain the following
(5)
(1) Out of C, N, O which has highest valde of ionisation enthalpy and why?
(1) Out of C, N, O which has the lowest value of electron affinity?
(1) Which out of O. NP shows maximum covalency and why?
(iv) lonisation energy increases from left to right in a period, yet ionisation energy of oxygen
is lower than that of nitrogen.

Explanation:

The correct order of ionization energy of C,N,O & F is C<O<N<F.

In a period on moving from left to right, the ionization energy increases. This is due to increase in the effective nuclear charge.

However the ionization energy of O is lower than the ionization energy of N. This is because in case of N an electron is to be removed from stable half filled 2p sub-shell which requires large energy.
