Explain the following
a) Why are conductors of electric
heating device such as toasters
and electric iron made of an alloy
rather than a pure metal?
b) How does the resistance of a
wire vary with its cross sectional
area?

Answer:

a) Alloys have high resistivity than pure metal due to which alloy produces more heat than pure metal.

b) The resistance of wire is inversely proportional to the area of given cross section of wire.

c) (i) In series arrangement if one appliance fails , the whole circuit fails and doesn't work.

(ii) In series arrangement, every appliance doesn't get enough current to work properly.
