a) The inertia of motion can be understood as follows: For a body that is already in a state of motion, it will have a tendency to continue in exactly the same state of motion (with the same speed and the same direction) unless an external unbalanced force acts upon it to change that state of motion.

b) In Newtonian mechanics, linear momentum, translational momentum, or simply momentum is the product of the mass and velocity of an object. It is a vector quantity, possessing a magnitude and a direction. If m is an object's mass and v is its velocity, then the object's momentum is: \mathbf{p} = m \mathbf{v}.

c) 1 : a force that starts a body into motion. 2 : the motion produced by a starting force. 3 : a strong sudden desire to do something She resisted the impulse to shout. 4 : nerve impulse.

d) An impulsive force is a force that acts for a short duration of time on an object. An impulsive force is mainly generated in a collision that results in a change in velocity or momentum of the one or all objects involved in the collision.
