Delhi Sultanate : Delhi Sultanate, also called as Delhi Sultans is a period which saw changing of power between different dynasties which ruled over India and their capital was none other than Delhi. Some of the greatest dynasties (in chronological order) which were part of it are ::

  • Mamluk Dynasty - This dynasty is also known as Slave Dynasty and had a root origin from Muhammad Ghori. They were persian and were related to slaves and thus had gained name of Slave Dynasty. The first ruler of them was Qutb - ud - din Aibak. Then came Iltutmish and Razia Sultana. Territories like Northern Part of India as Jammu and Himachal and regions of Peshawar and Central India were under this. The important building credited to this dynasty is the Qutub Minar.

  • Khilji Dynasty - This dynasty came after the Slave Dynasty whose main ruler was Alauddin Khilji. Then came other series of rebellions and rulers. The extent of territories under this empire was from northern India to different parts of Gujarat and Eastern India. Peshawar and parts of Arabia were already under it. The important building credited to this dynasty is the Madrasa and Roads and the Khilji Fort.

  • Tughlaq Dynasty - The most famous ruler of them was Mohammad - bin - Tughlaq. He was a fierce and a strong ruler with hostility in his nature. He introduced many new rules in the parts of territory under him. Many parts of Delhi were also discovered by him. Have you heard of Tughlaqabad ? It is a region exclusively discovered by him. The important building of this dynasty is the Tughlaqabad Fort.

  • Sayyid Dynasty - The most famous ruler of this dynasty were Khizr Shah and Mubarak Shah. They were famous for their introduction in art and culture in different parts of Delhi. They had parts of Punjab and Haryana exclusively under them. The important building of this dynasty is the Sayyid Gardens and Sayyid Tombs.

  • Lodi Dynasty - The most famous ruler of this Dynasty was Ibrahim Lodi who was killed by Babur. He was very found of art and gardens. Many gardens were made by him in different regions under his control. He controlled parts of India including Delhi, Northern parts, etc. The important buildings of this dynasty is Lodi Gardens and Lodi Fort.

Mughal Empire : These have root origin from Mongols also known as Moghuls. There were many different rulers in this empire. Let's know about main of them and important one's.

  • Babur : He was the first ruler of the Mughal Empire and also the one who started this. He was known for his battle style. In his reign there wasn't any important building formed but there was a fort known as Babri Fort which was built in his reign. He had many regions of Northern India under him.

  • Humayun : He was the son of Babur. He was very fond of art and culture. He built many gardens and palaces. Many forts in Delhi, Agra and Lucknow were built in his reign. The most famous building was the Humayun's Tomb and Humayun's Fort. He had parts of Peshawar and Central India under him.

  • Akbar : He was the most famous, prosperous and a great king among the Mughal Emperors. He was very fond of art, culture and tradition. He built many gardens and tombs and mosques. Most of them being in Ajmer, Delhi and Agra. Many forts like Agra Fort, Allahabad Fort, etc. wete built in his reign. He had conquered nearly whole India and Peshawar.

  • Salim : He was the king for very short period of time. Later he became a religious preacher. Much buildings and works weren't present in his reign.

  • Shah Jahan : He was a very great ruler. He was known for his work of Taj Mahal which he built in memory of his late wife Mumtaz Mahal. He didn't conquer much territory but still had large part of his empire.

  • Aurangzeb : The most hostile and cruel emperor of those dynasty. He didn't have much fascination towards art and culture. But many buildings were built in his reign like Mosque in Jammu and Kashmir, Aurangzeb Fort, etc. He had conquered different parts of Arabia, Peshawar, Nepal, India (almost full) and other neighbouring countries.
